Ilma Beach House

Tucked away in beautiful Bunker Bay on Western Australia's stunning South West coast, you'll find Ilma Beach House, the latest gem from the crew behind Meelup Farmhouse. This stunning spot brings together classic Mediterranean vibes with a relaxed Aussie coastal feel, creating a luxurious getaway by the sea. Here, amazing Indian Ocean views pair perfectly with delicious, locally inspired food that celebrates both the community and the region's heritage.

In an industry where big corporations often take over, Ilma is a great example of what strong family connections can achieve. Liz and Mark Ahearn have built their hospitality ventures, including the popular Meelup Farmhouse, right alongside the people they care about most.

For five busy years, the family team behind Meelup Farmhouse has been Liz's sister, Anneliese Hvalgaard Williams, and her husband, Dean, who manage the venue and lead the kitchen respectively. This talented duo is now bringing their high standards and deep understanding of great service to Ilma's bright spaces. "Growing up in hospitality taught us that amazing experiences come from paying attention to all the little things," Liz shares. "Our shared vision means everything just clicks, and guests really feel that easy, welcoming vibe."

Adding to the team recently is family matriarch Jenny. Her decades of experience in hospitality have really shaped how the siblings approach service, bringing a wealth of wisdom that truly shines through.

"Ilma" - meaning water in Maltese - is far more than nomenclature; it's a loving homage to Liz's Mediterranean heritage, where meals are about so much more than just eating – they're treasured times together. Here, along Western Australia's pristine coastline, you'll find that Mediterranean way of truly savouring every moment comes to life. It’s all about thoughtfully sourced ingredients and a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

Step into Ilma and be greeted by an interior that perfectly captures relaxed coastal sophistication. The space achieves what many venues aspire to which is a design that impresses without intimidating, inviting you to settle in and stay awhile.

Drawing on Mediterranean design principles, the team has crafted an environment where soft cream tones and natural textures create a canvas of understated elegance. Thoughtfully selected timber, handwoven wicker elements, and stone surfaces with subtle character establish a sophisticated beach-club atmosphere that feels authentic rather than contrived. Like the menu itself, every design choice pays homage to seaside traditions while remaining decidedly contemporary creating a space where style and comfort exist in perfect harmony.

It is clear that this venue is set to become an essential fixture in the region's celebrated dining scene. It's fair to say, we can't wait to get back.
