Custom Shade Elevates The Mondrian

The Gold Coast is known for its sun-drenched coastal energy, but the landmark Mondrian Gold Coast in Burleigh Heads has set a new standard for sophisticated design and luxury hospitality.

Basil Bangs was privileged to partner with Alexander & CO to deliver the bespoke outdoor elements for the stunning LITO restaurant terrace and the third-floor Haven Pool Club. The design intent was clear: blur the line between laid-back luxury and contemporary sophistication, extending the exquisite interiors into the surrounding alfresco spaces.

The project required a custom shade solution that could withstand the robust coastal climate and heavy commercial use while seamlessly integrating with the hotel’s overarching design language. Alexander & CO senior interior designer Matthew Grand emphasised the mission to carry the interiors’ soft, Mediterranean-inspired palette outwards. This collaboration led to a highly bespoke result. 

Taking inspiration from the site's natural coastal beauty, the pale nude canvas is a warm and versatile neutral and finished with a sage green trim. Classic but with a twist, this colour palette directly reflects the custom concrete bar fronts and leather banquettes inside the venue.

Appropriate for the coastal conditions, the fabric is woven in Europe our range of solution dyed acrylics are fade resistant and feature a UPF50+ rating. Woven with nano-technology imbedded in the fabric fibres, it is resistant to mildew, mould and with a high tensile strength are made for rigorous daily use.
