Verso: A Collection by Tom Mark Henry x Basil Bangs

Introducing 'Verso', our new design collaboration with Tom Mark Henry. Drawing on tailoring references and the concept of 'the reveal' Verso rewards you with a second look. Think double layer canopies, Italian milled fabric, and three rich colour ways.

Some of the best design happens when two studios who already speak the same language finally sit down at the same table. That's 'Verso': a new collection of patio umbrellas and outdoor furniture. Inspired by bespoke tailoring and a shared design language, the collaboration grew out of a long working relationship between the two studios. It came together around a kindred approach: considered, refined, and drawn to the tension between masculine and feminine, decorative and restrained.

The Reverse

‘Verso’ in Italian means the reverse face; the other side, the hidden layer. It's a fitting name for a collection inspired by menswear tailoring, where the real character of a garment often lives in the parts nobody sees at first glance: the inside of a jacket, the stitching along a seam, the fabric folded just out of view.

Verso started with a simple idea: that the most interesting things in design are often the ones just out of view. The bolder layer, the hidden detail, the lining of a beautiful jacket. Together, we built an entire collection around this notion of The Reveal.

- Tristan Qasabian, Senior Designer at Tom Mark Henry.

At the centre of the range is our iconic patio umbrella, this time, with a signature double layered canopy built the way a good jacket is built: composed and classic on the outside, with something bolder underneath. Turn it back and there's a second, more expressive layer waiting. Construction leans on the language of tailoring throughout the collection: visible stitching, precise seams, details that don't announce themselves but are there on closer inspection.

We wanted to make something that rewarded a closer look. The double layer, the Italian cloth, the stitching details, none of it shouts. But when you find it, you feel it. That's what good design does, and it's these small, thoughtful details that our studios care about most.

The Verso Collection

The collection spans five categories, from patio umbrellas and parasols, to deck chairs, director's chairs and cushions, all available in three colourways: Berry, Cocoa and Forest. Mix the colourways together or keep it tonal. Either way, the range is designed to work as easily on a home terrace as it does across a hospitality fit-out. Fabric is also available by the metre for anyone working on a custom piece.
