Behind The Shoot: Verso

A day of tripods, styling and good light at Cabbage Tree House. Go behind the scenes of the Verso shoot, our collection with Tom Mark Henry.

There are weeks of prep before a single frame gets shot. Locations locked in, furniture sourced, moodboards signed off. And then there's the one thing nobody can plan for: the weather. Every shoot week starts the same way, someone checking the weather, wind and cloud cover forecast, wishing we had a crystal ball. Every shoot depends on good weather since we're outdoors, so there's always a bit of nervous energy until the day actually arrives.

This time, it did us proud. Clear skies, soft morning light, and everyone frothing over the dappled light streaming through the trees.

Verso basil bangs behind the scene

We shot Verso at Cabbage Tree House in Bayview, a mid century home designed by Peter Stutchbury Architecture. Warm brick, raw concrete, the whole place cut into the hillside so it feels like it's grown out of the land rather than built on top of it. There's a pool that runs along the edge of the garden, framed by lush greenery that blurs the line between the house and the bush around it.

We had the dream team on the day: Jacqui Turk behind the camera, Sam from Velvet Sea Productions on video, and beautiful furniture on loan from Tait and Inartisan to round out the setting.

Somewhere between the tripod setups, the styled tables and someone always, always leaning over a wall for the perfect angle, there's a real sense of everyone pulling in the same direction. That's the part you don't see in the final shots, but is this magic that makes some shoots truly special and hard for AI to replicate!
