Tucked into the palm-fringed shoreline of iconic Catseye Beach, a new destination has arrived at Hamilton Island. The first hotel to open on the island in over 17 years, The Sundays blends both a relaxed coastal feel with a considered design-forward approach. Built on the foundations of one of the island’s original properties, the reimagined hotel achieves that rare balance of feeling both familiar, friendly and modern.
The pool area has one of the Greatest aspects on the main resort, looking out over the Ocean to sunrise over Passage Peak. My goal was to create a space that encouraged relaxation and connection as a family. The design incorporates a series of modern double day beds, allowing families to settle in for the day.
The hotel is elevated above the pool area, so it was important the umbrellas were stylish and distinct. We have a series of sunbeds surrounding the pool, housed underneath the beautiful Basil Bangs umbrellas.

The Sundays Designer, Carrie Williams, has masterfully realised the interior spaces as a natural extension of the surroundings, referencing the tones and textures that lie just beyond the window pane.
This dialogue with nature is evident in the architecture, where sculptural stonework and gently curved walls create an organic, welcoming flow. A meandering boardwalk, flanked by lush tropical gardens, dissolves the boundary between the built environment and the landscape, guiding guests towards the Coral Sea beyond, and of course - the stunning pool.
I always look at the natural surrounds. The Island natural beauty is what draws guests to visit, so ensuring the spaces feel grounded and connected to the natural beauty creating a nostalgic Island experience.

This meticulous attention to detail extends to the poolside terrace. Here, the clean geometry of the cabanas and the iconic, custom umbrellas create a graphic, stylish composition against the sparkling water.
It’s a clear expression of the hotel's design ethos: a belief that true luxury is found in thoughtful details and beautifully executed simplicity, creating a perfect setting for a day relaxing poolside.
